Visitor Experience Associate

Wonderfeet Kids’ Museum is seeking an energetic, fun, and flexible individual who values the importance of creating lasting memories for children and families through hands-on, interactive and engaging experiences. The ideal candidate is comfortable interacting and initiating conversations with children, and their caregivers, is approachable with a positive attitude, and has the ability to adapt to changes based on Museum needs, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment as well as in quieter, and more focused interaction, takes pride in their work and has high standards for visitor experience, resourceful and able to anticipate needs or potential problems; uses creative out-of-the box thinking to problem solve and a team player. The Visitor Experience Associate is responsible for maintaining a positive, welcoming and inclusive environment for all children and their caregivers to explore the power of play while engaging in hands-on experiences. Interacts with our diverse families to ensure a safe learning environment, create joyful experiences, and spark curiosity, imagination, and creativity. The Visitor Experience Associate is an important member of our team and plays a key role in staffing museum exhibits and maintaining exhibit cleanliness, safety, and accessibility, while supporting educational programs and events. Also supports admissions and membership but most importantly, promotes the lifelong love of learning and fun.

Responsibilities:

Visitor Experience Associates provide support to help ensure the smooth daily operation of the Museum and an exceptional visitor experience by:

  • Providing high-quality customer service to all Museum visitors

  • Following cleaning protocols to ensure a safe visitor experience for all, including but not limited to handling the Museum check-in process for visitors, cleaning exhibit surfaces, and enforcing Museum policies.

  • Answering visitor questions/concerns

  • Assisting visitors in exhibits and programs

  • Supporting the operation and staffing of the Admission Desk

  • Keeping visitors well-informed about Museum programs and activities in person and over the phone

  • Assisting with opening and closing of Museum exhibits and visitor spaces

  • Ensuring the cleanliness of the Museum’s public areas

  • Assisting with set-up, operation of, and occasional facilitation of children’s birthday parties, events, public programs and community events

  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to engage with both adult caregivers and children

Qualifications:

  • Experience working on a team

  • Strong interpersonal skills: helpful, calm, friendly demeanor

  • Positive work-ethic, professional attitude, and willingness to learn

  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks

  • Ability to adapt to different and changing environments (large crowds/small crowds)

  • Flexibly solving problems

  • Accurate keyboarding, data entry, cash register and cash handling skills

  • Good safety awareness and judgment and ability to assist visitors in emergent situations

  • CPR/AED/First Aid certified is a plus

  • Experience working with children and a commitment to children’s learning through play

Availability: Part-time (10-20 hours/week, with possibility of going up to 30); Must have availability on Weekends.

Other shifts may become available Tuesday-Friday. Available shift times can vary 9:30AM – 5:00PM or an occasional afternoon/evening.

Pay: Up to $14.01 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 20 per week

Internship: Exploration Facilitator

Wonderfeet Kids’ Museum will pay for and conduct a background check for all volunteers.
Reports to: Operations Supervisor, Operations Coordinator, Museum Director
Location: Wonderfeet Kids’ Museum, 66 Merchants Row, Rutland VT. Some off-site opportunities may be available based on the interest of the candidate.
Work Hours: 10–20 hours per week, flexible schedule based on needs of candidate.
Dates: Mid-June (start date flexible) through Mid-August (end date flexible), 2025.
Pay: Unpaid internship; candidate is responsible for seeking credit approval with advisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist families with exhibit engagement.

  • Monitor and guide safe ways to play.

  • Redirect unsafe play.

  • Reset exhibits as needed throughout the day for optimum experience for all.

  • Sanitize highly touched areas of Museum, including lobby, restrooms, and exhibit components.

  • Assist with scheduled daily programming (story-time, music-time, etc.)

  • Assist with experience development.

Skills:

  • Friendly and welcoming demeanor.

  • Develop a good understanding of the learning and skills that can take place at each exhibit experience to guide engagement.

  • Able to engage with children of various ages.

  • Ability to use positive redirection for unsafe play. (Examples: please walk, please come over here and try this with me, what you are doing is unsafe.)

  • Understand boundaries related to children.

  • Ability to work closely with a team.

Internship: Education Assistant

Reports to: Education Coordinator, Museum Director
Location: Wonderfeet Kids’ Museum, 66 Merchants Row, Rutland VT. Some off-site opportunities may be available based on the interest of the candidate.
Work Hours: 15–20 hours per week. Typically 8:30–4:30 Mon, and 8:30–12:30 Tues–Fri.
Dates: Mid-June (start date flexible) through Aug 22, 2025
Pay: Unpaid internship; candidate is responsible for seeking credit approval with advisor.

Internship Summary:
This position primarily supports the educational experiences of summer camp, summer field trips, and outreach events. The Education Assistant will work closely with Summer Camp Staff, including Education Coordinator and Education Supervisor, to plan and facilitate daily camp activities for ages 3 through 10. Opportunity to help the Education Coordinator facilitate both on-site and off-site field trips is available based on interest and availability.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development of educational activities for camp.

  • Assist with the development of educational experiences for the museum exhibit space.

  • Facilitate education activities according to program lesson plans.

  • Guide children in activity engagement.

  • Assist with set up and take down of program materials.

  • Redirect unsafe or disruptive behaviors.

  • Attend regular check-ins with either Education Coordinator or Museum Director.

Skills:

  • Availability to work camp hours and dates.

  • Availability to work occasional weekend/weekday evening events as needed.

  • Ability to work closely with a team.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

  • Develop a good understanding of the educational activities and programs.

  • Able to engage with children of various ages.
